More JLU Customs from GrundyGrundy and his wife (Anna) are expecting their first born this September. So they’ve been quite busy preparing for the arrival of the little tyke, and Grundy hasn’t had much time on the customs workbench lately. But he managed to send in a new batch of photos of his finished customs. Atom Smasher was built out of a 10″ John Stewart GL body. The head is an original sculpt. Everything else – the arm bands, the belt and boot cuffs – were scuplted on using Apoxie. Capt. Atom turned out to be a complex project. Instead of following the recipe popularized by the great Casimir using a Waverider figure, Grundy chose the road less traveled. His version made use of several characters: The body came from Steel. The legs were sliced off at the shin/boot line and were replaced by Sinestro’s. The head is a hybrid of Steel and Superman – the mouth and jaw from Steel and Superman donated the part from the nose up. Parasite here was started long before Mattel even announced that they were making one officially. He was made from a Hawk figure. The body was cut in the mid-section and the torso extended using Plumbers putty. Hawk’s face was also re-sculpted. Like most people who collect the JL/JLU figures, Grundy found Mattel’s version of Shade a little too hefty. Simply slicing of the vest wouldn’t do the trick – he was still too buff. Grundy worked down the body by cutting the torso near the shoulder and then shaving off about a half-centimeter on both sides. Everything was then glued back together. And now, here’s a couple of WIP teasers of what Grundy has in the oven. We hope to see the finished products soon. Photos were taken by Anna, Grundy’s better half.

oooooo….. That’s a good looking WIP Kaibak and Parademon! I REALLY want those to show up in the JLU line.
Outstanding work!
The W-I-P of Kalibak & the Parademon are great. Please make sure that the Mattel folks see these so that they can see what level of quality they have to meet if they produce their own!
dud those are great wip shots of kalibak and a parademon
p.s. grundy? have you ever considered using an JLU Etrigan figure to make a Dark Kinght Returns style batman? that’d be cool
