3rd TAGCOM – 2009

For the 3rd straight year, we have been invited to be part of the TAGCOM Toys and Hobbies Convention. This annual event is organized by Hobbiworx, Inc and is attended by collectors, hobbyists, cosplayers and the general public.

TAGCOM 2009 was held at the Robinson’s Place in Ermita Manila. I have to say that this year’s venue far surpasses last year’s in terms of accessibility and space. Kudos to Jojo and Dennis for making this excellent choice.

One of the crowd drawers for this event is the large range of loose action figures being sold at several booths. One of the sellers had a huge pile of loose Mattel stuff including figures from JLU, Batman: Brave and the Bold, and DC Infinite Heroes. My friends were able to pick up some JLU figures that have long eluded them (e.g. Obsidian and Vigilante). One lucky chap even bagged a loose Scarecrow from the new Matty exclusive Gotham Villains 4-pack.

Loose Mattel figures being sold for just P100 (roughly US$2.00) each.

Another crowd magnet was the G.I. Joe diorama on display put together by Toy Soldier, a local group focused on 1:18 military action figures. This set-up drew plenty of attention from shutterbugs.

More pics of the diorama at the end of this article.

Then, of course, there’s the array customs and kit-bashes by some great talents.

Is this the Ultimate Nick Fury kit-bash?

Hmmm… Which Armor will I wear today?

And for people who are just there looking to buy toys, TAGCOM provided an oasis of shops selling items from the upscale collectibles to the more popular bargain bins.
