I started making a Kilowog because I thought Mattel would never release one in mass market. Stoopid me :-) |
I started by sculpting his head. I took one of the spare heads I had in my fodder box to use as a starting point for my Kilowog head sculpt (didn’t want to use pure apoxie for the head to keep costs down). It's funny how my original headsculpt looks a lot like Mattel's. |
I initially planned to put my head sculpt on a bootleg JL GL body (which was quite bigger than the authentic GL toy, perfect for Kilowog) but I messed up the scale of my sculpt and ended up with a Kilowog head that was dis-proportionately bigger than the body I intended it for. I ended up using the body of JL Darkseid. The problem was his appendages were too big for Kilowog. |
While I was Imagineering arms for this fig, I noticed that my JL 10"GL fig's ring was detailed with the GL logo. Also, the 10"GL's fist is as big as Darkseid's hands. I combined these elements and eventually opted to retain Darkseid's arms because of these developments. I kit-bashed Martian Manhunter legs with Darkseid's body then bulked it up with Plumbers Putty to smoothen the spaces. Overall I like how he turned out. I’m still a little bothered by the size of his arms, but I like it when I pose him with his ring up front like the one in the pic below, so I guess I can live with it Very Happy . |
After seeing this pic, I've retouched some of the greens in his arms. |
